Dr Paul McCartney is a general ophthalmologist and principal of Hobart Eye Surgeons.  He is Head of the Ophthalmology Dept at the Royal Hobart Hospital & Hon Senior Lecturer at the University of Tasmania.

His clinical interests are cataract & refractive surgery with particular reference to innovation in IOL selection, glaucoma & oculoplastics.

His research interests are cataract  morphology & surgery, genetics of glaucoma & the delivery of ophthalmic care to developing countries and rural areas. He travels to East Timor annually as part of the East Timor Eye Program.
